About Atlas Translations

Our story

Cambridge, UK, circa 1991. That’s when it all began. We started our small translation agency in a tiny room above a bank. Back then, we were delivering leaflets door to door by bicycle to advertise our services.

In 1995, we opened a new, swanky office in London’s Covent Garden. This became our HQ until we moved out of ‘The Big Smoke’ to the more serene environments of St Albans and Exeter.

As we grew, we received requests for much more than translation. So, we evolved. From a company that simply offered interpretation and translation, we now also do subtitling, typesetting, transcription, proofreading, a range of editorial services and more in over 300 languages.

Over 35 years after we started, we’re busier than ever, serving our many fabulous local and international clients of all sizes, backgrounds, and industries with tip-top translations, excellent customer service, and an overall level of attention that’s equal parts human and caring.

Who we are

Our services are provided by our network of hand-selected, qualified and experienced translators.

The secret to our decades of success is our team of project managers. Every job for every client is led by an individual who is focussed on making sure that job gets done to an impeccable professional standard, on time, and who can answer any questions that pop up along the way. You can find out more about these wonderful humans below.

Officially recognised

We hold ISO certifications — ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management) and ISO 17100:2017 (Translation Services). If you don’t know what these are, don’t worry! For some clients in certain industries, they can only work with us if we hold these.

Fun Fact: Atlas Translations was one of the first UK companies to achieve the ISO 17100:2017 certification.

We’re also members of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), and the Association of Translation Companies (ATC).
Why should you care about that? Because it means we’re committed to upholding high standards. We are up to date with the latest developments in the law and the industry. We have access to training to ensure our team and suppliers are always working to current best practice. All of which means a better service for you.

We’re Cyber Essentials certified, Fair Tax accredited, registered with the ICO and Patient Information Forum, members of the Good Business Charter and more.

Atlas is also a great place to work, as a Living Wage employer, 4 Day Week employer, Disability Confident Committed employer, Mindful Employer Plus and signed up to the Fair Payment Code.

To be honest, we’re running out of space on our wall for all our certificates!
